Last year, two senior IT professionals shared the same concern with me.
‘My salary increased, but my happiness did not.
During my 1-1 coaching sessions, many Scrum Masters, Project Managers, and Leaders share these pain points:
- Salary growth excites us for a few months, not for years.
- I earn more, but feel less valued.
- Recognition drops as experience increases.
Why satisfaction drops even after a salary hike?
- Salary increases, but workload and stress increase much faster
- Pay goes up, but authority and flexibility stay the same.
- Salary grows, but titles come without influence
- Work becomes heavier, but purpose becomes unclear.
This is what I share with my 1-1 coaching clients, to help them to navigate this challenge:
- Do not measure your growth only by salary. Pay attention to the influence you have in your role.
- Choose roles that align with your strengths, not just roles that feel comfortable.
- Gain clarity about your career direction before pursuing the next salary hike.
- Small mindset shifts lead to long-term career satisfaction.
Salary growth feels rewarding
Career clarity feels empowering.
But the long-term happiness needs both.
